Prince Charles to kick off British Tourism Week
The Prince of Wales is to launch the first British Tourism Week on Monday with an industry reception at the Tower of London.
As patron of the event, Prince Charles will start five days of events including the British Travel Trade Fair in Birmingham on March 13-14.
Culture secretary Tessa Jowell and new VisitBritain chairman Christopher Rodrigues are to open the event.
In addition to VisitBritain’s hosted overseas buyers programme bringing more than 200 representatives from around the world, a seminar programme is to address issues facing the industry from sustainability and branding to the London 2012 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games.
VisitBritain chief executive Tom Wright said: “Once again British Travel Trade Fair confirms its place as the must-attend event of the tourism calendar.
“Inbound tourism continues to rise and our destinations, attractions, accommodation and eateries are benefiting from fresh attention by British travellers.
“Every one of us must continue to do all we can to invest in improving Britain’s position as a world-leading destination that is the rival of anywhere in the world.
“Through widespread political support and the involvement of HRH the Prince of Wales, we can remind the country of the critical importance of tourism to the UK economy.”
