Princess Cruises set for record season
Princess Cruises will carry a record number of Australians on cruise holidays next summer, with the Diamond Princess calling Sydney home as she sails on her first ever series of round-trip cruises from the harbour city.
The newly refurbished 2670-passenger Diamond Princess will join Sun Princess in November to offer the cruise line’s largest Sydney season.
Diamond Princess’ Sydney deployment will follow a $30 million refurbishment which will see the ship fitted with a host of new features including a sushi restaurant and the biggest Japanese bath area at sea.
Over the coming months, Princess Cruises will expand its presence in Asia with ships based in Singapore, China and Japan for an extended period.
Princess Cruises vice president Australia and New Zealand Stuart Allison said the 116,000-tonne Sapphire Princess was leading the charge with her first Shanghai deployment from May to September followed by a busy season of cruises from Singapore until February 2015.
Allison said the Singapore round-trip cruises were hitting the mark locally, with interest from Australia topping that of all other major markets.
