Qantas announces Chicago flight launch

Buoyed by final US approval for its joint venture with American Airlines, Qantas has confirmed a new long haul route between Brisbane to Chicago will begin from April 20, 2020.

The 14,000 km 16-hour route becomes the world’s fourth longest, and ticket reservations are now live.

It cuts three hours off the current flying time when connecting via Los Angeles.

However, it is not even Qantas’ longest flight.

That accolade goes to its current Perth-London service.

The service will initially operate four times a week but ‘we’ll want to get to daily flights as fast as we can’ Qantas Group CEO Alan Joyce said.

Qantas is also launching three times weekly Brisbane-San Francisco flights in February.

It also flies to SFO from Melbourne and Sydney.

"The new route from Brisbane will cater for both leisure travelers and the growing number of Australian entrepreneurs wanting to connect with Silicon Valley," said Qantas international CEO Naren Kumar.

As well as the new routes, Qantas will add an extra three weekly flights between Brisbane and Los Angeles during the peak season from January 2 to February 8, 2020.
