Qantas inadequate cleaning may have exposed people to coronavirus
Qantas is under fire for ‘inadequate’ aircraft cleaning practices potentially putting workers and passengers at risk.
A report by regulator SafeWork NSW said ‘workers and other persons may be exposed to a risk of injury or illness’ including coronavirus.
The report was passed to Bloomberg by a trade union.
Inspectors ‘observed workers wiping over multiple tray tables with the same wet cloth with no disinfectant and cleaning unknown liquids on floors and surfaces,’ and issued an improvement notice to Qantas to reduce the risk of exposure to diseases, including the coronavirus.
It has until March 30 to comply.
"Qantas is not known for being complacent when it comes to safety or the cleanliness of our aircraft," the airline said in response.
Qantas said the report doesn’t refer to the aircraft that was used for evacuation flights from Wuhan, China and Japan.
