Qantas starts reopening airport lounges in July

Thursday, 06 Jun, 2020 0

Qantas plans to reopen its airport lounges starting next month.

The airline says the domestic Qantas Club and Qantas Business lounges will start to gradually open from July but the buffet will stay off the menu.

It comes after Qantas and Jetstar announced the ramping up of domestic and regional flights starting this month.

Qantas’ lounges have been closed since March.

When they reopen there will be new social distancing measures and a strict maximum capacity.

Seating will be moved around and some removed to provide more space between passengers

Hand-sanitising stations will be placed at the entrance and inside lounges, and self-service buffets will now be replaced by pre-packed meals and other snacks.

"We are gradually adding flights in June. As demand levels increase we can quickly ramp up flying in time for the July school holidays if border restrictions have eased more by then," said Qantas Group CEO Alan Joyce.

"Customers will notice a number of differences when they fly, such as masks and sanitising wipes, and we’ll be sending out information before their flight so they know exactly what to expect."

The new lounge protocols are part of the airline’s wider FlyWell traveller safety programme.
