Qantas to resume flights to the UK months earlier than planned
Qantas is planning to resume flights to the UK months earlier than expected due to the emergence of Covid vaccines.
Tickets can be booked for travel from 1 July 2021, although the actual start date of international flights will be subject to the easing of country’s border controls and the progress of the vaccination rollout, it said.
"We continue to review and update our international schedule in response to the developing Covid-19 situation," added Qantas.
"We have aligned the selling of our international services to reflect our expectation that international travel will begin to restart from July 2021."
Long haul destinations open for booking include the US as well as the UK.
Qantas international flights have been grounded for months, with the exception of flights on trans-Tasman routes.
Chief executive Alan Joyce said recently that flights were likely to be restricted to those who have been vaccinated against Covid-19.
"We are looking at changing our terms and conditions to say for international travellers, we will ask people to have a vaccination before they can get on the aircraft," he said in November.
However, the airline doesn’t appear to have changed its T&Cs, with passengers from the UK able to book flights now without having had the vaccine.
