Rail firm hits 1m online booking mark
Train company National Express East Coast has reported crashing through the one million sales mark eight months after it launched its site.
The site allows customers a range of extras apart from booking tickets such as allowing them to reserve seats and bike spaces. It also emails them when tickets for a particular date become available.
Ecommerce manager Emma Passey said: “We brought specification and management of our online bookings system in-house so we could provide our customers with the website we felt they deserve – one that is both comprehensive and simple to use. A real one-stop shop for their travel needs. We’re obviously delighted to have reached the one million milestone in just a few months.â€
The company has also forged ahead in offering internet access to customers.
It offers laptop users free wifi between London and Scotland on first and standard class carriages and has introduced free wifi on the platforms of railways stations in York.
It also provides customers free wifi in first class lounges in King’s Cross, Leeds, Newcastle, Edinburgh Waverley, Berwick-Upon-Tweed, Darlington, Wakefield Westgate and Doncaster stations.
