Redbud season in Pittsburgh

The annual spring blossom a particularly special time of year for Pittsburgh, as the city welcomes a display of pretty pink tinted flower buds, ushering in springtime’s warmer weather.

Typically emerging from mid-April, the Pittsburgh redbuds frame the iconic bridges and skyscrapers downtown elegantly.

While the classic Cherry Blossoms only offer a small window of opportunity, the redbuds in Pennsylvania typically flower for three or more weeks, allowing visitors longer to enjoy them.

Where to see the Pittsburgh Redbuds:

On Foot: Using the Three Rivers Heritage Trail, start near the stadiums and walk alongside the Allegheny, cross into Point State Park and then into the South Side to view a large number of the redbuds in one short trip.

Length: 2 miles; terrain – mostly flat; duration: 40 minutes

By Bike: Expanding the aforementioned route to include the 10th Street Bypass area redbuds riding along the Allegheny Riverfront, and including the entire stretch of the North Shore; from the Science Center all the way to the 16th Street Bridge.

On the Water: For a unique view, book a kayak or a spring sail aboard the Gateway Clipper riverboat to see the redbuds from the three rivers.

For UK visitors, British Airways nonstop service from London to Pittsburgh operates daily on 31 March.

Wyndham Grand Pittsburgh Downtown (only a 20 minute drive from the airport) offers king bed with a river view room.
