Reno, Nevada has a $1 billion renaissance under way designed to solidify its meetings and convention business. Said Knud Svendsen, vice president of sales and marketing for the Reno-Sparks Convention & Visitors Authority:
“It’s part of our strategic direction to make a stronger commitment to the meetings and convention market.”
Part of that effort involves downtown revitalization. Railroad tracks no longer run through the middle of the city. Officials are building a new park.
A new emphasis has also been placed on Reno’s natural side with the opening of the Truckee River Whitewater Park.
“Those two anchor components have sparked major redevelopment in the blocks spread out from the Truckee River,” says Meeting News.
There’s a brand-new $25 million Reno Ballroom with a 25,000 square foot space.
Virtually every major hotel in the area has completed or is underway on major renovations.
Atlantis Casino Resort & Spa is spending $50 million to double its meeting space, expand its casino and add a pedestrian skywalk to the Reno-Sparks Convention Center by next year.
