Resorts World Sentosa announces imminent layoffs

Monday, 15 Jul, 2020 0

Theme park and casino operator Resorts World Sentosa announced it will lay off staff to cut costs as it struggles through the tourism collapse in Singapore.

It employs about 12,000 but hasn’t disclosed how many will be impacted.

Genting owned RWS operates hotels, a casino and Universal Studios Singapore on Sentosa Island.

It is one of Singapore’s top tourist attractions.

"The global Covid-19 pandemic has brought about challenging economic times globally, generating a devastating impact on the tourism industry," RWS said.

"In this latest round of review, we have made the difficult decision to implement a one-off workforce rationalisation. This decision was made after a thorough process of careful deliberation and consultation."

It is working with various government agencies and unions to help secure new jobs for affected staff.

It includes the Attractions, Resorts and Entertainment Union, Workforce Singapore and SkillsFuture Singapore.

"We fully understand the difficulty and anxiety this means to impacted team members and their families. At least two to three job opportunities have been successfully identified and shortlisted for every affected local team member," RWS said.
