Resorts World Sentosa bans plastic straws
Resorts World Sentosa says it has ditched a policy of providing plastic straws to customers.
It began eliminating straws in early October in an effort to cut down on non-biodegradable waste.
They have been eliminated at five of its major resort attractions, including Universal Studios Singapore, S.E.A. Aquarium and restaurants and food outlets.
This will save about three million straws a year, RWS says.
Biodegradable paper straws will be offered to customers as a more sustainable option.
It follows a widespread trend in the industry to eliminate unnecessary single-use plastics to aid efforts to reduce pollution.
Major chains Hilton, Marriott International and AccorHotels have all pledged to phase out single-use plastic products across thousands of hotels and resorts globally, while several major cruise lines and airlines have also promised to eliminate straws and other plastics.
