China’s dominant ride sharing service Didi Chuxing has launched its own car rental business.
Didi Car Rental has been in beta mode since July and has been tested since then in Shanghai.
The company is collaborating with existing leasing companies who will provide access to vehicles, which Didi said will include economy and utility sedans, SUVs and MPVs.
More luxury vehicle options will be added in the near future.
Didi Car Rental is also in discussions with other rental firms, including eHi Car Services over potential partnerships.
According to the China Tourism Automobile and Cruise Association, China’s car rental market is slated to surpass 5.8 billion trips by 2020.
