Rockford Garden Wins Gold Medal and Best Garden in Show at Malvern Autumn Show
A garden inspired by Rockford, Illinois last weekend won a gold medal and best garden in show at the Malvern Autumn Show, at the Three Counties Showground, Worcestershire, in conjunction with America As You Like It.
America As You Like It featured on the stand alongside Rockford along with leaflets advertising the newly devised Discover the open road of Illinois Itinerary. The newly extended 10 day itinerary now includes increased overnights and stops off in Chicago, Springfield, Galena, Rockford and Rosemont.
The edible garden inspired by Rockford, Illinois known as ‘The City of Gardens’ was designed by landscape architecture students from the University of Gloucestershire, Steve Mann & Jake Poloni. This garden was one of many entries into a competition co-ordinated by Cellet which asked landscape architecture students to create a design for a Rockford inspired edible garden. These gardens were then judged by a panel of experts from Rockford, with this entry being selected as the winner. The students design sought to celebrate features of Rockford’s urban and rural landscape. The space was divided into an irregular grid that references the pattern visible from the aerial views of the city and in particular the surrounding field layouts. The garden also contained a curved body of water that runs across the space explores the juxtaposition of the organic meandering path of the Rock River with the formality of Rockford’s urban development.
