Oh where for art thou Rhubarb?

All things rhubarb are on the menu during the Annual Rhubarb Fest held yearly at the Carriage House. Get there on Monday, 23rd May, 2016 at 6:00pm and experience rhubarb at its best, pies, tarts, and everything in between. Rockton Township Historical Society members and friends get busy baking rhubarb cakes, pies, breads as well as rhubarb cupcakes, cookies and muffins. Rhubarb fudge and rhubarb brownies are always a hit, too. Whatever your preference is in treats made with this old fashioned pie plant, you’ll find it at Rhubarb Fest.

The flowers are always in bloom at the Rockford Garden Fair, held annually at Klehm Arboretum & Botanic Garden. In 2016 the Garden Fair will take place over the weekend of 4-5 June. Garden Fair Weekend is Rockford’s biggest and best outdoor marketplace, whether it’s a basket of begonias, garden art, handmade soap, or even a nice cold beer, you’ll be treated to the best of Rockford over the whole weekend.

Nippon’nonatsu matsuri

And for those who don’t speak Japanese, this is the Japanese Summer Festival of Rockford, Illinois. Taking place 30 -31 July the Summer Festival is a celebration of traditional cultural arts. During the weekend you can take take part in origami demonstrations, listen to traditional Japanese drum performances and watch the traditional Japanese dance, as well as a wide variety of cultural demonstrations and collections to get a real taste of Japanese culture.

The sixth annual Screw City Beer Festival will be held on Saturday 10th September 2016 in Downtown Rockford. Located on the corners of State and Main Streets, Screw City beer Festival will host dozens of American craft breweries and pour over 130 different beers to more than 2,000 craft beer enthusiasts. In recent years a small Belgian beer section has been included, with a selection of sours, farmhouse ales, and strong ales. Screw City Beer Festival 2016 will be one to not miss!

The light at the end of the tunnel

Make this state tradition, your family tradition. The Rockford Festival of Lights was first held in 1989 and is still shining bright in 2016. More than 50 amazing light displays will be on view from 29th November to 27th December and add a real magical touch to the Christmas period in Rockford, the festival even attracts a special guest, Santa Claus! Santa will be spending time each weekend evening by the donation box from 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m., so you can hand deliver your letters to him. When Santa is too busy at his workshop you can still drop your letter in the North Pole Express mailbox, just don’t forget a return address so Santa can reply!
