Royal Caribbean International will base Voyager of the Seas in Asia and Australia from 2012.

After sailing in China between June and October, the 138,000-tonne Voyager of the Seas will be based in Sydney for a five-month season from November 2012, becoming Australia and New Zealand’s first ‘megaliner’.

Voyager of the Seas, which carries 3,840 guests, will be the fifth Royal Caribbean ship sailing in the region in 2012-13, joining Rhapsody of the Seas and Radiance of the Seas, and sister brand Celebrity Cruises’ Celebrity Solstice and Celebrity Millennium.

Voyager of the Seas, built at a cost of US$500 million, has15 passenger decks and is twice the size of most cruise ships currently based in the region.

Onboard facilities include an ice skating rink and an indoor ‘main street’ stretching the length of a football field through the middle of the ship, lined with places to eat, drink, shop and be entertained.

Voyager of the Seas’ Asia season will include a range of 4- to 10-night cruises from Shanghai, China between June and October 2012.

Voyager of the Seas’ Australia & New Zealand season will feature 12 New Zealand, South Pacific and Australia itineraries ranging from one to 18 nights, sailing from Sydney and Fremantle.

Cruises are due to open for sale in early July 2011.
