Ryanair co-pilot 'fainted' on Stansted-Palermo flight

A Ryanair co-pilot reportedly fainted on a flight from London Stansted as it made it final approach to Palermo in Italy.

According to Italian media, the first officer hit his head during a turbulent approach but this has not been confirmed.

The Boeing 737-800 had 186 people on board when the incident happened.

The Aviation Herald said the captain decided to divert to Trapani, around 35nm southwest of Palermo, where the first officer was taken to a local hospital and released shortly afterwards.’¨’¨

The return flight was postponed until the following morning while a replacement aircraft was found.
