Ryanair passengers threatened with further cancellations this month
Ryanair’s pilots in Germany are threatening to walk out with just 24 hours’ notice.
The Vereiningung Cockpit (VC) union said 96% of the airline’s pilots in Germany had voted for industrial action due to a pay dispute.
The union has given Ryanair until August 6 to make an offer to avoid the strike.
If it doesn’t, the union said it will give the airline just 24 hours’ notice before it calls a strike.
"Ryanair has been playing for time in the negotiations since January," VC said. "If the signal given by this vote is not taken seriously, then strikes – such as in other European countries – are inevitable."
Last week, more than 100,000 Ryanair passengers were hit after the airline was forced to cancel more than 600 flights due to strikes by crews in Ireland, Italy, Belgium, Spain and Portugal.
The airline has also cancelled a further 20 flights on Friday due to a third threatened walk-out by pilots based at Dublin. Forsa, the union representing Irish pilots, is warning more strikes will follow after Ryanair responded to the industrial action by threatening to move aircraft from Dublin to Poland, leading to possible redundancies amongst its flying crew.
Ryanair said up to 3,500 passengers booked on Friday’s cancelled flights have been re-accommodated or refunded.
