Ryanair has bought 10 more Boeing 737 Max 200 aircraft, five of which will be delivered in the first half of 2019.
The remaining five will be delivered in the first half of 2020.
Ryanair said the new $1.1 billion order, combined with its existing order for 100 Max 200s and options on a further 100, would enable it to grow its traffic to 200 million passengers by 2024.
The airline said the new aircraft would cut its fuel consumption by up to 16% and noise emissions by 40%, despite a 4% increase in the number of seats per flight.
It said this would allow it to lower fares ‘while ensuring that Ryanair remains Europe’s greenest and cleanest airline’.
Chief operations officer Mick Hickey said: "This all-new Max 737 aircraft has eight more seats than our current 189-seat Boeing 737-800s and incorporates the latest technology engines and winglets, which reduces fuel consumption and noise emissions, ensuring we remain Europe’s greenest, cleanest airline."
Ryanair’s operates an all-Boeing fleet, which it claims is the youngest in Europe, with an average age of six and a half years.
It took delivery of its 450th Boeing aircraft in March 2017.
