Ryanair says sluggish EU vaccine rollout to impact passenger traffic

Sunday, 07 Apr, 2021 0

Ryanair says it expects to revise down its expected loss for the last financial year but the slow Covid-19 vaccine rollout in Europe will impact its 2021/2022 prospects.

It now expects passenger traffic to be at the lower end of its previous estimate of 80-120 million people for the current financial year.

"Easter travel restrictions and lockdowns and a delayed traffic recovery into the peak summer 2021 season, due to the slow rollout in the EU of COVID-19 vaccines, means that FY22 traffic is likely to be towards the lower end," it said in a statement.

Ryanair carried just 27.5 million passengers in the last 12 months.

The airline said it is too early to issue a profit guidance for the year ahead but is targeting ‘close to breakeven.’

It is due to publish annual results on 17 May, the same day international leisure travel from England may be permitted again.

The airline said it had €3.15 billion in cash as of the end of March 2021.
