Saudia takes delivery its first Airbus A321XLR including the Middle East largest business class

Saudi Arabia’s national carrier Saudia has taken delivery of its first Airbus A321XLR, becoming the first airline in the Middle East and Africa to receive the extra long-range narrow-body aircraft.

The milestone marks another step in Saudia’s fleet expansion strategy and underscores its investment in next-generation aircraft designed to improve operational efficiency, sustainability, and the overall guest experience.

Offering a range of up to 5,400 miles (8,700 km) and flight times of up to nine hours, the Airbus A321XLR gives Saudia greater flexibility to serve longer international routes while maintaining the efficiency advantages of a narrow-body jet. The aircraft will allow the airline to expand its global network more effectively by matching capacity with market demand while continuing to deliver a premium onboard product.

The aircraft is also the first in the fleet to introduce key features of “The New Saudia Experience,” the airline’s latest onboard concept focused on comfort, connectivity, entertainment, dining, and service consistency throughout the journey. The cabin includes 24 private Business Class suites -the largest number of any airline on such an aircraft- designed for enhanced comfort and privacy, along with 120 Economy Class seats featuring upgraded ergonomics, 13-inch personal entertainment screens, and convenient charging ports.

To further enhance the passenger experience, the aircraft will offer high-speed inflight connectivity capable of supporting web browsing, live streaming, virtual meetings, and access to major entertainment platforms. Business Class travelers will also have access to Saudia’s inflight chef service, providing a personalized dining experience with a menu of Saudi and international cuisine.

Upgraded fleet to help boosting tourism

The delivery of the A321XLR reflects the momentum of Saudia’s ongoing transformation,” said Engr. Ibrahim Al-Omar, Director General of Saudia Group.

“As we continue to grow our fleet, our focus is not only on adding capacity, but on investing in aircraft, products, and capabilities that strengthen Saudia’s competitiveness and support the Kingdom’s aviation ambitions. The New Saudia Experience reflects this direction, bringing together enhanced onboard products, service quality, and operational efficiency to deliver a more distinctive journey for our guests.”

Saudia Group’s fleet investments are also expected to generate broader industrial and economic benefits for Saudi Arabia. Through its agreement with Airbus for 105 confirmed aircraft, the group aims to boost local content, create opportunities for Saudi suppliers, and increase the Kingdom’s role in the global aviation supply chain. Airbus will continue collaborating with Saudi-based suppliers to help qualify them for international aerospace programs, supporting long-term economic growth beyond aircraft acquisitions.

Saudia plans to add 15 Airbus A321XLR aircraft to its fleet by 2027 as part of its broader fleet modernization and expansion strategy. The aircraft are expected to support growth across tourism, business travel, religious pilgrimage, and major international events tied to Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 and national aviation strategy. Upcoming events include the AFC Asian Cup 2027, Expo 2030, and the 2034 FIFA World Cup.
