Scandinavian Airlines to launch Stockholm – Beijing route

Saturday, 14 Sep, 2006 0

SAS Scandinavian Airlines has announced it will launch direct flights between Stockholm and Beijing in April 2007. From Stockholm Arlanda Airport, SAS connects direct to 45 destinations in Scandinavia, Europe and the US.

“The new route is ideal for Australians wanting to experience Asia, Scandinavia and Europe in one trip,” says Lars Sandahl Sorensen, General Manager SAS Australia and New Zealand. “We offer full flexibility with our airline partners, so Australians can fly to Europe via Beijing and Stockholm.”

Scandinavian Airlines will operate the Stockholm – Beijing route four times a week with an Airbus A340, with its three classes: Economy, Economy Extra and Business. All classes offer personal entertainment screens, while both SAS’ Economy Extra and Business classes were upgraded earlier this year. The new SAS Business class offers flatbeds with improved comfort and more secluded space than traditional seats.

The new service will depart Stockholm (ARN) 22.30 on Mondays, Wednesday, Saturdays and Sundays and arrive 12.55 the next day. Flights from Beijing (PEK) depart 14.45 also on Mondays Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays and arrive the same day at 18.10.

SAS partner Qantas currently operates three weekly flights from Sydney to Beijing. Qantas frequent flyer members can earn points on Scandinavian Airlines flights.

SAS Australia’s popular flexible tickets make it possible for passengers to mix classes enroute to Europe. For instance, Australians can travel to Beijing with Qantas in Economy and then fly onwards with SAS in Economy Extra or Business class.

SAS fares from Australia include a side-trip to a SAS European destinations and passengers are able to stopover in both Asia and Scandinavia enroute.
