Scottish entrepreneurs’ start-up airline has ‘15,000 bookings’ on UK-Canada routes
Zoom Airlines says it is ready to launch low cost flights to Canada from May and has announced extra services from Glasgow due to high demand. The carrier, owned by two Scottish entrepreneurs, says it has already received 15,000 bookings for its Glasgow and Gatwick flights. UK director, Debbie Marshall said: “Demand for Zoom flights between Scotland and Canada has exceeded our expectations, particularly on the Glasgow/Calgary and Vancouver routes.” Zoom originally planned to launch weekly flights from Glasgow to Halifax, Calgary and Vancouver, two flights a week to Toronto and one flight a fortnight to Ottawa. The airline says that owing to high demand from Scottish travellers, Calgary and Vancouver will be served twice a week. There will be weekly flights from Gatwick to Vancouver, Ottawa, and Halifax, two flights a week to Toronto and one flight a fortnight to Calgary and Edmonton. Fares from both UK airports start from £89 to Toronto one way plus £58 tax, and from £115 to Vancouver plus £58 tax. For more fares go to flyzoom.com. Zoom flies wide-body B767-300 aircraft, with a seat pitch of 31 inches. Premium seats have more leg room of 36 inches, a luggage allowance of over 20kg, plus better in-flight meal and complimentary drinks.
