Seabourn Encore collides with ship in New Zealand port

New luxury liner Seabourn Encore broke free from its moorings during a New Zealand port call and collided with another vessel.

The ship, which recently launched last month in Singapore, was docked at Timaru on Sunday when mooring lines broke in strong winds.

The Transport Accident Investigation Commission said it will conduct an investigation.

The incident was caught on camera, damaging the hull of cement ship Milburn Carrier II.

PrimePort chief executive Phil Melhopt said there was damage to the cruise ship as it scraped along the wharf.

The ship is still in port and was unable to depart as scheduled late Sunday.

"It won’t be allowed to sail until it’s cleared by Maritime New Zealand," Melhopt said.
