Australia’s Kelsian Group has sold its ferry and cruise businesses, including SeaLink, Captain Cook Cruises and Murray Princess.

It sealed a deal for $161 million with new buyer Journey Beyond.

Kelsian says it will use the funds to pay down debt and will now focus on its commuter transport businesses including the Kangaroo Island ferry and the Brisbane CityCat.

It also operates in the UK, US and Singapore.

Journey Beyond operates the Ghan rail service, cruises, camps and lodges across Australia and New Zealand.

It recently acquired Ayers Rock Resort

“On completion of the transaction, Kelsian will emerge as a leading global transport business delivering contracted marine, bus and motorcoach operations,” said Kelsian Group CEO, Graeme Legh.

The deal is pending approval by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission and Foreign Investment Review Board.
