Search for MH370 to be suspended
The search for missing Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 is to be suspended.
The plane, travelling from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing, disappeared in March 2014 with 239 passengers and crew on board.
Search teams from China and Malaysia and led by Australia have been scouring a 120,000 sq km area in the southern Indian Ocean where the plane is believed to have gone down.
They have confirmed that efforts will be suspended once this area has been fully searched, and if no ‘credible new information’ comes to light.
Making a media announcement today, the joint search panel stressed the investigation has not ended.
Relatives say they don’t want the search to end until the plane is found.
So far, the search effort has cost almost US$180 million, the most in aviation history.
