SeaWorld eliminates polystyrene from parks

Wednesday, 06 Mar, 2019 0

SeaWorld Entertainment has ditched all polystyrene foam dinnerware products from all 12 parks.

The non-biodegradable bowls, plates and trays have gone from all dining operations and replaced with products made from 100% recycled material.

SeaWorld estimates it will remove a total of 14 million pieces from local landfills and in the ocean ecosystem.

The company first began eliminating polystyrene foam at SeaWorld San Diego in 2013.

It also ditched single-use plastic bags from parks in 2013 and all single-use plastic straws and plastic coffee stirrers last year.

"Reducing our environmental footprint is an important part of our mission, and this achievement is another step toward becoming greater stewards of our oceans," said Andrew Ngo, corporate vice president of in-park revenue.
