SeaWorld Entertainment announces more job layoffs

Saturday, 19 Oct, 2017 0

Theme park operator SeaWorld Entertainment Inc is slashing its workforce by about 350 in the latest bid to turn around a struggling business.

In a regulatory filing the company says a potential $25 million in cost savings will go toward an increase in marketing budget and developing new rides.

The job layoffs will be mostly back-office administrative positions in Orlando and San Diego.

"We do not take this task lightly. It is an unfortunate, but necessary, consequence of the restructuring that some positions will be lost," a SeaWorld statement said.

According to the last annual report, the company had 5,000 full-time employees and 8,300 part-timers.

The business has suffered ever since the 2013 documentary ‘Blackfish’ with sluggish attendances and it has been thriugh several restructuring initiatives.

Since then it has reduced the workforce several times with the last round of layoffs announced in December 2016.

The latest job cuts would not affect the guest experience or its animal rescue and rehabilitation programs, the company said.
