Sharks flee to Florida canals to escape Red Tide

The red tide bloom is back with a vengeance on Florida’s Gulf Coast.

It has been spotted in several areas along the coast in recent days. The Karenia brevis organism has seen thousands of dead fish wash up on the shore and has even forced sharks into canals to escape the toxic waters.

Red tides can also impact human health, causing eye, nose and throat irritations that has seen some hospitalized this year.

According an update from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, dozens of red tide bloom samples were identified in Pinellas and Sarasota Counties.
