Silk Road and women in tourism to be highlighted by UNWTO
Silk Road Bloggers Challenge new initiative
The agenda of UNWTO activities at WTM this year will include specific events related to the Silk Road development and to gender and sustainable tourism development as follows:
Silk Road Tour Operators Speed Networking in Cooperation with WTM (7 November, 08.30 – 10.00, Platinum Suites 3 & 4, Level 3)
A speed networking event allowing Silk Road tour operators to meet potential buyers and pursue shared business interests during and after WTM.
The Silk Road Bloggers’ Ch@llenge at WTM (9 November, 10.00 – 17.00, Stands of the Silk Road destinations)
A new UNWTO/WTM initiative will see bloggers from around the world compete to create the best Silk Road travel blog at WTM. Bloggers will meet with Silk Road destinations at their stands to gather stories and news and reflect these in a dedicated blog. An Apple iPad will be awarded to the winning blogger.

Seminar: Gender and Sustainable Tourism Development: Exploring the Links (9 November, 12.30 – 13.30, North Gallery, Room 8)
This seminar will discuss the findings of the Global Report on Women in Tourism, a joint UNWTO/UN Women publication which provides statistical information on women’s role and status in tourism.
Representatives from the public and private sectors, as well as civil society, will share their views and experiences on tourism’s potential for promoting gender equality and women’s empowerment while at the same time examining current challenges in the sector.
First Meeting of the Silk Road Task Force (9 November, 14.30 –16.30, Platinum Suits 5 & 6, Level 2)
The UNWTO Silk Road Task Force was created to drive the development of sustainable and competitive tourism along the Silk Road. Consisting of representatives from Member States, UN agencies, the private sector and associations, this working group will meet for the first time at the WTM.
