Silversea introduces flexible cruises
Upmarket Silversea Cruises is to launch a flexible programme for 2003 which will allow US agents to book their clients on any part of a cruise.
With Personalised Voyages, customers can embark or disembark from any of Silver Cloud’s ports, provided the cruise lasts a minimum of five days.
The cruise company’s 2003 Cruise Atlas lists more than 200 ports under the programme, with daily rates for each one.
“We’re testing it out to see how it works,’”said Bill Leiber, senior vice-president of sales and marketing.
“This is a tremendous opportunity for agents because it depends on expertise and it begs for custom designing by combining land elements with cruising. Agents could put clients on a 5-day cruise, send them on a luxury train or offer them a stay in a special city with a personal car for transport and rejoin the ship later for another cruise segment.”
He added: “We want to tap the resort market. Our passengers are about evenly divided between the under-59 age group, which typically takes 7-11 day cruises and the 60 and over group, which takes longer cruise vacations. This way at any time passengers can tailor their cruises to their own tastes and timetables.”
