Singapore Air joins TSA PreCheck

Singapore Airlines is joining the TSA PreCheck programme, becoming the first Asian airline to sign up.

SIA customers can now go through fast-track security screening at 180 PreCheck ready airports in the US.

The expedited screening means passengers can keep on jackets, belts, and shoes and do not need to remove laptops from bags.

"TSA PreCheck enables low-risk known travellers to enjoy the programme’s benefits while reducing checkpoint wait times. These changes will be implemented in the coming months," SIA said.

An additional six global airlines were also added to the PreCheck list – Copa Airlines, Dominican Wings, InterCaribbean Airways, Silver Airways, Swift Air, and Turkish Airlines.

That takes the number of participating airlines to 37 US and international carriers.

The scheme is open to US citizens and permanent residents.

Inbound foreign nationals can join the Global Entry trusted traveller programme for expedited processing.

"Expanding TSA PreCheck allows us to increase overall security effectiveness and make the screening process more efficient. We committed to the expansion of TSA PreCheck to strengthen aviation security and improve the passenger experience," TSA acting administrator Huban Gowadia said.
