Singapore Airlines passenger numbers plummet 60 percent

Singapore Airlines group passenger traffic plunged more than 60% in March as SIA touts incentives for customers to take credit vouchers rather than refunds.

The main Singapore Airlines brand flew 665,000 passengers in March, which is down 62.9% compared to 2019.

SilkAir passengers declined 72% and low-cost unit Scoot carried 318,000 passengers, a fall of 65.2%.

By late March it had cut 96% of passenger capacity on Singapore Airlines and SilkAir routes which is in effect until the end of April.

Scoot has grounded all but two of its jets and suspended 98% of its network.

Amid a flood of requests for refunds, SIA is offering extra value if customers take up the offer of a credit voucher.

Economy Class tickets will earn an extra bonus of S$75, Business Class tickets earn S$200, and First Class tickets get an extra S$500.

Credit is applicable for travel until June 30, 2021 but is not transferable.

For those who opt for a refund, all cancellation and no-show fees will be waived.
