Singapore expands e-arrival card trial programme

Tuesday, 19 Aug, 2019 0

Singapore has made the next step in a bid to consign paper-based immigration cards to history.

It launched a beta version of the new ‘SG Arrival Card’ which does away with filling in traveller data by hand prior to immigration checks.

Foreign travellers will only need to present their passport at checkpoints as long as they have submitted an e-arrival card up to 14 days ahead of their arrival date.

It has been piloting the service since last year.

This latest trial of the service is available to travellers entering Singapore on select airlines, buses and ferries.

These include AirAsia, Jetstar Asia, Cathay Pacific and Singapore Airlines, cross-border coach service Transtar Travel, and BatamFast Ferries, Bintan Resort Ferries, Horizon Fast Ferry, and Majestic Fast Ferry.

Submission can be dome on Singapore’s Immigration & Checkpoints Authority’s website or via a mobile app which allows biodata to be scanned.

This information will be saved on the app so that it may be used for future trips to Singapore.

The e-arrival card system is expected to fully roll out in 2021 when it will completely replace all paper-based arrival cards.
