Singapore-Hong Kong travel bubble could begin later this month
Singapore’s highly anticipated travel bubble agreement with Hong Kong could start by the end of November.
Hong Kong Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Edward Yau said the two governments are finalising plans and there is optimism it can start before the end of this month.
Yau said travel agencies would probably be able to start selling tickets from mid-November.
Travel bubble passengers would have to take designated flights and it would likely start with one dedicated flight between the two cities every day.
Yau told reporters more flights would be added depending on demand.
"The mechanism depends on the situation with epidemic prevention work. We will also have a mechanism to tighten and suspend flights," Yau said.
Singapore has unilaterally agreed to allow Chinese travellers into the city state starting later this week.
Yau also hopes a delayed travel corridor agreement between Hong Kong and Guangdong on the Chinese mainland will resume as soon as possible.
