Singapore unveils new fast track hotel check-in system
Singapore is touting a new automated hotel check-in procedure it hopes will save hotel thousands of man-hours every year.
The system called E-Visitor Authentication (EVA) can reduce hotel check-in time by up to 70%, says Singapore’s senior minister of state for trade and industry Chee Hong Tat.
The system was unveiled at the Hotel Industry Conference 2019 and uses facial recognition tech.
"Today, hotels have to deploy staff at check-in counters to confirm that the individual’s face matches the passport photo, and to verify that they are in the country legally.
The system verifies the guest’s identity and also sends the data to the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority.
"Some hotels have self-check-in kiosks with facial recognition technologies to automate the first task, but not the second. With EVA, both tasks can now be automated," the minister said.
The system has been tested at three city hotels: Ascott Orchard, Swissotel The Stamford and Grand Park City Hall.
He said it will result in about 11,000 man hours saved every year at hotel check-in desks for an average hotel.
Hotels can get in touch with the Singapore Tourism Board for more details about the system.
