SITA implements outbound screening system at Australian airports

Australia’s Department of Immigration and Border Protection has rolled out a new automated program monitoring all passengers departing the country, using the iBorders system developed by leading aviation IT firm SITA.
The Outward Advance Passenger Processing (APP) program conforms to new legislation requiring all airlines to provide data on all travellers departing Australia ahead of their flight.
"Outward APP delivers a faster and more seamless experience for travellers, while meeting our business needs to manage threats and ensure the integrity of Australia’s border," said John Gibbon, assistant secretary traveller branch at the Department.
Through the system, airlines relay passenger data to the Department during the check-in process and a ‘board’/’no board’ response is delivered in real-time.
"Australia has long been recognised as a leader and innovator in the area of border management. This sophisticated Outward APP program builds on the existing solutions that SITA has been providing to the Department of Immigration and Border Protection since 2000," said Ilya Gutlin, SITA President, Asia Pacific.
The SITA iBorders system is used by about 30 government border control departments around the world.
