Six arrested in Majorca in false sickness claims investigation
Six people, including up to three Britons, have allegedly been arrested in Majorca during an investigation into false holiday food poisoning claims.
Spanish Civil Guard officers also seized bundles of documents during searches of properties and businesses in the Calvia area, which includes the popular resort of Magaluf and the island’s capital, Palma.
The nationalities of those arrested have not been confirmed, but sources say two or three of the six are British, said The Mirror.
It emerged in June that a Majorca court was investigating hundreds of food poisoning claims by British holidaymakers following a complaint by Mac Hotels group.
Lawyers acting for the hotel group gave local police a dossier of evidence, put together by a team of private detectives, relating to sickness claims received last year from guests who stayed at the three-star Club Mac resort in Puerto Alcudia.
The hotel group is challenging 273 claims involving 797 holidaymakers, which amount to £4 million, according to The Mirror.
