Six Flags settles rollercoaster death lawsuit
A Six Flags theme park in Arlington, TX, has settled a lawsuit with the family of a customer who fell to her death from a rollercoaster ride last year.
Rosy Esparza, 54, fell 75 feet from the Texas Giant roller coaster on July 19, 2013 at the Six Flags Over Texas park.
A coroner’s investigation later said she was ejected from her seat.
Six Flags and ride maker Gerstlauer settled claims brought by the Esparza family but terms of the settlement were not disclosed.
"Our deepest condolences, thoughts and prayers will forever be with the Esparza family," said park president Steve Martindale.
"The Esparza family is very pleased with the settlement and appreciates the condolences offered by Six Flags and Gerstlauer," said a statement released by the Esparza family.
During the post-accident investigation, witnesses said Esparza showed concern that the safety bar was not secure enough.
The Texas Giant ride was closed for almost two months following the accident and Six Flags has since installed new restraint-bar pads and new seat belts on rides.
