Solomon Airlines has announced it has ousted CEO Ron Sumsum with immediate effect, replacing him with general manager operations and commercial, Gus Kraus in an interim basis.
Soloman Airlines’ chairman Austin Holmes made the sudden announcement and the board will now take steps to select a new permanent CEO in due course.
The process will require approval by the Solomon Islands Civil Aviation, Authority, Holmes said.
"The implications will have far reaching effects and this is being worked through by the airline’s executive team with notifications and change processes already underway to ensure the airline complies with all relevant regulations," he said in a statement.
The appointment of Kraus has been welcomed by Civil Aviation Authority.
"Gus is a very fit and proper person to step into the CEO role. I believe his 48 years of airline service and experience will see Solomon Airlines successfully through its next phase of transition as we await the appointment of a new CEO," said CAASI director, George Satu.
