Some light at the end of the New South Wales Government and Federal Government cooperation tunnel?
Outgoing New South Wales Minister for Tourism and Sport and Recreation, Sandra Nori announced today that she welcomed the news that Geoff Buckley had been appointed as the new Managing Director of Tourism Australia, saying “I have known Geoff for a long time and I think he is an inspired choice to head Australia’s top tourism body.”
“Geoff has excellent credentials, in particular his previous experience as Executive Director of Marketing and Communications at Sydney Olympic Park as well as working in a number of senior positions at Tourism NSW.”
“His experience in his former roles at Tourism NSW, where he was responsible for driving the strategic direction including brand development, marketing planning, major events development and corporate and business planning, will bring much-needed energy and verve to the head of Tourism Australia.”
“I am sure that Geoff’s appointment will bring much needed stability and a renewed vigour to Tourism Australia to the benefit of the tourism industry and economy,” said Ms Nori.
With no mention by Minister Nori of her vocal critic Federal Minister Fran Bailey who made the appointment, Ms Nori said “I wish Geoff and the Tourism Australia Board all the very best for the future and look forward to exciting new opportunities for Tourism NSW working with Tourism Australia.
Hopefully, this might encourage the New South Wales Government to work more effectively with the Federal Government and Tourism Australia and release more funds to market the flagging New South Wales tourism industry.
We can only hope!
