Figures for January to May show an increase of 2.3 per cent in visitors, with a total of 219,639 visitors arriving from the UK compared with 214,750 for the same period in 2006.
The most recent statistics reveal that UK arrivals in May alone were up six per cent on 2006.
South African Tourism said that this proved the country was increasing its popularity as a year-round destination.
UK country manager Lebo Mokhesi said: “We are obviously thrilled with the increasing numbers of travellers who see South Africa as an exciting destination.
“Whether visitors are looking for adventurous family holidays or more tailored holidays offering a variety of experiences such as spa or wildlife, South Africa has something for everyone.
“We are dedicated to building strong relationships with the UK trade and this in turn is having a positive effect on UK visitor arrivals to the country.”
