Australian Brandenburg Orchestra plays The Brandenburgs
Australian Brandenburg Orchestra plays The Brandenburgs – A rare moment to hear four famous Brandenburg concertos from the Master, JS Bach – Touring Nationally in August 2006. ‘Bach’s Brandenburg concertos are the supreme jewels of the baroque music, inspiring me to name the Australian Brandenburg Orchestra in their honour’, says Paul Dyer, Artistic Director. ‘Audiences will be able to hear for themselves why Bach is revered as one of the greatest, most imaginative and most innovative composers of all time.’ This program showcases Bach’s very unusual groupings of instruments and the exquisite musical dialogues that take place between the players. All musicians on stage have a chance to shine and the audience also gets to hear more rarely used instruments such as the viola da gamba and the violino piccolo.

ASO presents Malaysian Airlines Masters Series ‘Magnificent Mahler’
The full force of the ASO is unleashed in Mahler’s majestic 5th Symphony. A declaration of deep love, with all the connotations of turbulence and ecstasy that it brings, this symphony is one of Mahler’s most exhilarating and moving. Its sublime Adagietto for strings and harp is a most treasured musical creation, known to audiences through Visconti’s Death in Venice.

Women’s International Zionist Organisation (WIZO SA) presents “What Men Want”
Hon. Justice John Sulan, well known Adelaide Supreme Court judge, Hon. Christopher Pyne M.P., and well known Adelaide personality Russell Starke will take part in a panel discussion of “What Men Want” as well as other prominent guests. All funds raised at this luncheon will be directed to WIZO projects in Israel. WIZO sponsors crèches, pre-schools, shelters for abused women and recently started training women in leadership and politics. Presently WIZO is providing food packs to alleviate the poverty situation affecting many Israeli citizens brought on by the affects of terrorism.

Carrick Hill Reveals Treasures From The Attic
An exhibition of more than 60 rarely seen items from the famous Hayward bequest will be on show at Carrick Hill. Curated by Carrick Hill Director Richard Heathcote the show, entitled ‘What’s in the Attic’ will feature an eclectic mix of humorous sketches, old master prints and drawings, photographs, sculptural works, books, medieval weapons, thirteen swords, leather fire buckets, furniture and part of Sir Edward Hayward’s drum kit.

The Great War and its Aftermath: South Australia 1914 – 28 Conference
The conference will complement the Trust’s current exhibition ‘Gallipoli: The South Australian Story’, which is displayed in its head office in the Torrens Parade Ground. Margaret Preston: Art and Life
This is the most extensive exhibition ever presented of Adelaide-born Margaret Preston’s work. Preston is one of Australia’s most celebrated artists and the country’s most important early modernist. Her vibrant, decorative paintings and prints of the 1920s and 30s epitomise a unique era in the history of Australian art.

John McDouall Stuart’s Expeditions Relived
Presented by the John McDouall Stuart Society, this exhibition celebrates the pioneering spirit of one of our State’s early European explorers. The exhibition looks at Stuart’s expeditions from 1858 – 1862, the men and horses that accompanied him, and the effect of these expeditions on South Australia.

Gallipoli: The South Australian Story
Every Australian has heard of Gallipoli and the Anzacs, but South Australia’s own specific part in the story is less well known. This free exhibition marks the 90th anniversary of the Anzac campaign, focusing on the incredible contribution of both the South Australian soldiers on the frontline and those South Australians who worked for the war effort on the home front in 1915.

The Most Delightful Thing on Earth: the art of Gladys Reynell
South Australia’s first studio potter, Gladys Reynell, produced innovative and distinctive earthenware which combined abstract designs with Australian flora and fauna. This exhibition features 170 of the artist’s works, including her distinctive Modernist pottery, paintings, drawings and prints.
