South Korea tourist arrivals to Japan plunge nearly 60 percent
Japan tourism seems to be suffering the most in the long running spat with neighbour South Korea.
Inbound tourist arrivals from Korea were well down again in September with a decline of nearly 60%, the Japan National Tourism Organization.
According to JNTO estimates about 201,000 Koreans visited Japan in September, which is a fall of 58.1%.
Since the trade and diplomatic dispute began, South Koreans have shunned Japanese goods and travel to the country.
Tourism started declining in July with a 7% fall but August plunged 48% year on year.
Now September is much worse with little end to the dispute in sight.
Japan’s southwest island of Kyushu has been hit hard as it has been a traditional favourite with Koreans.
However most other international markets were up with overall tourism growth of 5%.
Japan received a total of 2.27 million arrivals in September.
