Southwest Airlines brings forward launch of two Hawaii routes
Southwest Airlines says it is bringing forward two new Hawaii services due to high demand.
It plans to launch flights from Sacramento to Honolulu on November 10 several weeks ahead of schedule.
The route was originally slated to begin on Jan. 19, 2020.
Southwest is also bringing forward its interisland service between Honolulu and Lihue, Kauai to November.
"Demand is strong for our Hawaii service and we’re not just increasing those routes to daily service for our customers, we’re also moving up our timeline on two routes," said Adam Decaire, Southwest’s network planning VP.
Introductory limited time midweek fares are available starting at $99 one-way, and $29 for the interisland service.
The carrier also starts flying from Sacramento to Maui in March 2020.
In addition, its current flights from Oakland and San Jose to Kona and Kauai will expand to daily service by then.
Since it launched Hawaii services earlier this year, the so-called ‘Southwest Effect’ seems to have kicked in.
It is estimated typical airfares from the West Coast to Hawaii have shrunk about 17% since Southwest entered the market.
