Southwest gobbles up more AirTran routes

Tuesday, 22 Oct, 2012 0

USA Today reports that four more AirTran destinations will be converted to all-Southwest service this spring.  AirTran’s routes to Charlotte, Flint (Michigan), Portland (Maine) and Rochester, (NY) will cease on April 13 and be converted to all-Southwest service on April 14.

Experts say the total integration of AirTran into Southwest will take several years, although the merger of the two airlines’ networks is on track to be completed in early 2013, allowing agents and customers to book combination itineraries on both airlines.

AirTran, however, is currently the only network of the two that has the capacity to book internationally.  Southwest has stated that it is working on a new website with international booking systems.
