Southwest to start assigning seats ?

Monday, 11 Nov, 2004 0

Don’t expect assigned seating anytime soon for Southwest Airlines, say sources familiar with the airline.

President Colleen Barrett has been besieged with questions about the change since mentioning the possibility during a recent news conference.

“They’ve been doing it this way for 32 years. What makes you think they’re going to change that now?” asked one airline official.

Gary Kelly told the Associated Press that the airline’s first-come, first-served approach to seats speeds up the boarding process. He expressed concerns that a new boarding process would slow down operations.

In any case, a decision is months away, according to airline officials.
