Spain’s Tourism Minister Reyes Maroto received a disturbing death threat in the mail. A ‘blood-stained’ knife was delivered to her just before regional elections in Madrid.
It is not thought to be due to a tourism-related issue.
Police have yet to confirm if the red liquid on the knife is actually blood.
Politicians have called for calm ahead of the elections and the threat is not the first.
The leader of the left-wing Podemos party received a parcel containing bullets last week.
The threats have been condemned by senior Spanish politicians, which include Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez.
Maroto is standing in the regional election and thanked people for support.
"Freedom will prevail. Threats and violence will never silence the voice of democracy," she tweeted.
