SpiceJet suffers another technical snag, aborts take off

A SpiceJet flight suffered yet another safety issue.

A SpiceJet Q400 aircraft had to abort take-off on the runway at Mumbai Airport due to a safety alert lighting up in the cockpit.

It is at least the ninth incident of a malfunction or safety issue in just five weeks.

Regulator the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) is probing the incident.

A day earlier, the regulator ordered SpiceJet to cut 50% of its flights for two months to ensure it delivers ‘safe and reliable transport service’.

The DGCA calls it ‘enhanced surveillance.’

“A SpiceJet flight scheduled to operate from Mumbai to Kandla rejected take off owing to illumination of a caution alert,” SpiceJet said.

“There was no safety scare. All passengers and crew safely deboarded,” it added.

Multiple flights have diverted over mid-air malfunctions in recent weeks.

Aviation minister Jyotiraditya Scindia said Indian airlines had in 478 technical or safety issues on flights in the past year.
