The origin of a crop circle which mysteriously appeared in fields near Kansas City International Airport has finally been revealed.
Rather than a cryptic message from extraterrestials, it turns out it was a creative advertising stunt by ultra-low carrier Spirit Airlines.
The airline, which begins services from KCI next month, commissioned an artist to create Spirit’s new logo for its ‘bare fare’ campaign which shows a semi naked passenger and carry-on bag.
The crop circle has been grabbing the attention of air passengers taking off and landing at the airport over the last few days.
True to Spirit’s pared-down business model, spokesman Paul Berry said: "We have to think of ways to get people to know who we are without spending millions of dollars on advertising campaigns."
Berry said it is the first time they have tried crop circle art and admitted it cost much less than traditional advertising through print, TV, and online.
