TUI sports and adventure operator Sportsworld, which sells packages to the Commonwealth Games, has issued a statement saying that it has faith that sufficient security measures are in place for the event to go ahead successfully in India.
But it adds that should the Games be cancelled, bookings will looked at individually in terms of refunds.
This now seems unlikely as participating have already started arriving in Delhi.
India’s chance to show the world its abilities to organise such a major sporting event have been hampered by controversy after some athletes have pulled out citing dangerous conditions.
Filthy conditions have been described in the athlete’s village and just to make matters worse a stadium walkway meant to link to a carpark collapsed earlier this week, injuring 23 workmen.
The statement says: “The safety and wellbeing of our clients remains our priority across all our events. Sportsworld continues to work closely with the local officials and remains confident in the security measures that have been put in place for the upcoming Games.”
Sportsworld Projects Director Len Olender added: “At this stage the Games are set to go ahead as planned. With our clients booked on a variety of packages, in the event of cancellation by the Games organisers we will follow our cancellation procedures and look at bookings on a case by case basis.”
